The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), West Tripura, in collaboration with the Tripura High Court, district courts, and sub-divisional courts, successfully organized the third National Lok Adalat of 2025 on Saturday at Agartala.
As per official data, a total of 31,789 cases were resolved across 39 benches constituted for the Lok Adalat. Out of these, 24,013 were pending court cases, while 6,776 were pre-litigation matters. The initiative provided citizens an opportunity to settle disputes amicably, avoiding lengthy trials and reducing judicial workload.
The category-wise data highlighted the wide scope of cases addressed during the session. A total of 203 motor accident compensation cases, 249 matrimonial disputes, 5,594 bank loan repayment cases, and 1,182 BSNL bill-related disputes were resolved. The largest segment comprised 23,442 criminal cases, registered under different Acts such as the MB Act, TP Act, TG Act, and Excise Act. Additionally, 68 cheque bounce cases under the NI Act, 8 money suits, 35 civil cases (TSOMS cases), one case under the Forest Rights Act, and 7 employment-related disputes were settled.
The Lok Adalat system, recognized under the Legal Services Authorities Act, is designed to deliver alternative dispute resolution in an accessible and cost-effective manner. By settling disputes through mutual agreement, it benefits both litigants and institutions, ensuring faster justice delivery.
The large number of disposals in Saturday’s session reflects the growing trust of the people in this system. It once again demonstrated that Lok Adalats play a crucial role in reducing case backlogs while ensuring quick redressal of disputes.
On the same day, journalists in Tripura also utilized the platform to clear their traffic-related fines. The initiative was welcomed by the press fraternity. Press Club President Pranab Sarkar expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and judiciary for extending the benefit of Lok Adalat facilities to working journalists, further showcasing its inclusive approach.
The National Lok Adalat, conducted periodically under the guidance of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), continues to achieve remarkable success across India. In Tripura, these sessions have consistently recorded high disposal numbers, easing judicial pressure and encouraging amicable settlements.
The September 13 session once again underlined the importance of Lok Adalats as a vital pillar in India’s judicial framework. With over 31,000 cases resolved in a single day, the event reinforced both the efficiency of the system and the public’s willingness to embrace alternative mechanisms of justice delivery.
