Tripura has emerged as one of the top three performing states in India in achieving National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification, with more than half of its government health institutions now accredited under the national quality framework.
According to official data, 50.53 per cent of public health facilities in Tripura have secured NQAS certification. This achievement allows the state to meet the national benchmark well ahead of the prescribed timeline. With this progress, Tripura joins Daman & Diu and Andhra Pradesh as the only regions to cross the 50 per cent certification mark so far.
National Target Achieved Ahead of Deadline
During a national conference held in December 2023, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had set an ambitious goal. The target aimed to bring 50 per cent of government health facilities under NQAS certification by December 2025 and achieve full coverage by December 2026.

Structured Implementation by NHM Tripura
Following the national directive, the National Health Mission (NHM), Tripura, launched a structured and time-bound implementation plan. The initiative was carried out under the leadership of Secretary Kiran Gitte, with continuous guidance from the state Health Department.
The focus remained on systematic assessment, regular monitoring, and strict adherence to quality benchmarks. This approach ensured steady progress across health facilities in both urban and rural areas.
Quality Assurance Committees Played Key Role
To strengthen execution, Quality Assurance Committees were formed at the state and district levels. District Magistrates and Collectors chaired the district committees, ensuring administrative oversight and accountability.
In addition, State and District Quality Assurance Cells closely tracked performance indicators. These teams conducted inspections, provided feedback, and supported facilities in meeting certification standards.
491 Health Institutions Certified
As a result of sustained coordination and rigorous evaluation, 491 out of 971 government health institutions in Tripura have now received NQAS certification. This milestone marks a major step forward in improving healthcare delivery and patient safety across the state.
Officials noted that the certification process encouraged better infrastructure management, improved clinical practices, and enhanced patient care systems.
