The state government has appointed 45 specialist doctors to serve in different districts and sub-divisional hospitals. Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha handed over the appointment letters during a ceremony held at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala today.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha said that the government is working tirelessly to meet the healthcare needs of the people by expanding services and upgrading infrastructure. Earlier, a shortage of specialist doctors had limited the availability of advanced healthcare at district and sub-divisional levels. With the new appointments, this gap will now be partially filled, and more recruitment will follow in the near future.
The Chief Minister pointed out that since 2018, the number of doctors serving in various health centers across the state has steadily increased. He also highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a self-reliant India is being reflected in Tripura as the state moves towards self-sufficiency in different sectors, including healthcare. “With better medical services available locally, the number of patients being referred outside the state has gone down significantly,” Dr. Saha noted, expressing hope that the newly appointed doctors will dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to public service.
More Recruitment on the Way
Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, who also spoke at the program, announced that 215 more doctors will soon be appointed to further bridge the manpower gap in hospitals. He added that several district and sub-divisional hospitals have already been modernized, and continuous infrastructure development is underway to ensure quality healthcare for all citizens.
Delivering the welcome address, Additional Secretary of Health & Family Welfare, Rajib Dutta, emphasized the government’s focus on strengthening healthcare facilities across Tripura. Director of Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Tapan Majumdar, proposed the vote of thanks.
