Tripura Artisan Ranjit Das Receives National Recognition

Tripura artisan Ranjit Das, from East Nalchar in Sepahijala district, has received national recognition for his bamboo basket craftsmanship. He accepted the President’s Award from President Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday. The moment marked a major achievement for Tripura’s traditional craft sector.

National Handicrafts Awards Celebrate Excellence

The ceremony showcased the National Handicrafts Awards for 2023 and 2024. These awards honour master artisans who preserve India’s age-old craft traditions. This year, 12 artisans received the Shilp Guru Awards, and 36 artisans earned National Awards.
Moreover, several cultural experts, senior officials, and Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh attended the event. Their presence highlighted the importance of India’s handicraft sector in both cultural preservation and livelihood creation.
