Tripura Aspirants Protest Against Paramilitary Recruitment Interviews Held in Mizoram

Every year, recruitment rallies for various paramilitary forces are organized under the Ministry of Home Affairs, with the process completed through the SSC-GD written examination, followed by physical and medical fitness tests. For nearly two decades, from 2005 to 2024, candidates from Tripura were able to complete these interviews and tests within the state itself.

However, this year, in a sudden departure from tradition, both male and female aspirants from Tripura were directed to appear for interviews in Aizawl, Mizoram. The move sparked widespread resentment as candidates faced multiple challenges while attending the process outside their home state.

On Tuesday, hundreds of aggrieved aspirants gathered at Astabal Ground in Agartala, demanding Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s intervention to ensure that future examinations and interviews are conducted within Tripura. Earlier, male candidates who had returned from Aizawl had raised similar concerns, alleging harassment during the recruitment process. Now, female candidates have joined the protest, echoing the same demand.

The aspirants accused the state administration of negligence and criticized political leaders for their silence on the issue. Many also alleged that the recruitment process was unfair, particularly during the physical tests. According to them, candidates were forced to run on rough and hilly tracks, leading to nearly 70 percent of Tripura’s job seekers being disqualified.

Calling it an injustice to local youth, the candidates have urged the government to take up the matter with the Ministry of Home Affairs and ensure that physical and medical tests are conducted within Tripura in the future.
