Tripura Assembly Session to Begin September 19 Amid Expectations of DA Announcement

Tripura Assembly session

The eighth session of the 13th Tripura Legislative Assembly is set to commence on Friday, September 19, at 11:00 AM. The three-day session, scheduled to run until September 23, has drawn significant attention from government employees and officers who are hopeful of an official announcement regarding the release of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR).

According to assembly sources, the session will open on September 19, followed by holidays on September 20 and 21. Proceedings will resume on September 22 and conclude on September 23. The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) finalized the agenda during a meeting chaired by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath. Officials confirmed that no major bill will be tabled during this session. Instead, the focus will remain on routine legislative business such as daily question hour, call attention motions, short notice discussions, private members’ resolutions, and the presentation of various committee reports.

While legislative activity is expected to be limited, the spotlight is firmly on the state government’s stance regarding the much-anticipated DA and DR installments. Employees across departments are eagerly awaiting an announcement, with many associations voicing their expectations that Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha may make a statement during the proceedings.

The urgency stems from the deadline set by the 16th Finance Commission, which mandates that any sanction of DA and DR must be declared before October 31. Failure to do so would mean that the state forfeits the reimbursement of the entire amount by the commission. This has intensified speculation on the size and scope of the expected installment.

Employee unions have highlighted the importance of the upcoming session, emphasizing that timely approval of DA and DR would not only provide financial relief but also boost morale among government staff. With rising living costs and inflation, the demand for DA revision has become a key concern for state employees and pensioners alike.

Political observers note that while the session is expected to be free from major legislative debates, the government’s approach toward the DA issue could shape public sentiment in the coming months. With anticipation running high, the assembly session is being closely watched by employees, associations, and the wider public across Tripura.

The proceedings beginning September 19 are therefore set against a backdrop of expectations, with the decision on DA and DR likely to remain the focal point until the session concludes on September 23.
