BJP Drops Mayor Dipak Majumder
The BJP’s decision to exclude Dipak Majumder from its AMC candidate list has drawn attention ahead of the municipal elections.
Majumder currently serves as the Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and is also the MLA representing the Ramnagar Assembly constituency.
BJP state president Abhishek Debroy explained that the party followed the principle of “one leader, one post” while selecting candidates.
“An MLA has duties towards the people. The party will contest the elections highlighting the good work done by Majumder,” Debroy said.
He clarified that the decision did not mean the party was overlooking Majumder’s contributions. Instead, the BJP would highlight his work during the election campaign.
BJP Drops Some Sitting Corporators
Apart from Majumder, the BJP has also excluded several sitting corporators from its candidate list.
Debroy said the party considered different factors while finalising candidates, including reservation requirements and internal organisational considerations.
The BJP leadership has not yet announced all its candidates for the Agartala Municipal Corporation.
According to Debroy, the remaining six candidates will be announced on Wednesday. Candidate lists for other municipalities and nagar panchayats will also be released shortly.
BJP Offers Three Wards to Tipra Motha
Meanwhile, the BJP has begun discussions with its alliance partner, the Tipra Motha Party, regarding seat-sharing arrangements for the civic elections.
Abhishek Debroy said the BJP had offered Tipra Motha three wards across different municipalities.
The announcement indicates that the BJP is considering an electoral understanding with its regional ally as it prepares for the November 27 elections.
