Annoyed by the statements of Tipra Motha leader Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, the BJP is preparing a robust political counter-attack through its tribal wing, the Jana Jati Morcha (JJM). Senior leader and former MP Rebati Tripura will spearhead the campaign, according to Bikash Debbarma, Minister for Tribal Welfare and senior BJP tribal leader.
Bikash dropped hints of the strategy while attending a Jana Jati Morcha programme at the Agartala Town Hall yesterday. He told media that the BJP intends to discuss its approach to the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections intensively once Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha returns from his campaign in Bihar.
“Crucial decisions on our strategy and tactics will be taken after the chief minister’s return,” Bikash emphasized. His remarks suggested that BJP may contest the ADC elections independently, reducing reliance on Tipra Motha support.
Protest Demonstration in Ambassa
The BJP’s Ambassa Mandal (47) organized a protest rally yesterday against what it called the “foul utterances” of Pradyot and his party. Former MP Rebati Tripura addressed the gathering as chief guest. Other key leaders, including Mandal President Patiram Tripura, District Vice President Mridul Datta, and senior leader Ajay Datta, also spoke.
A large crowd of BJP supporters attended the meeting, which was preceded by a protest procession through Ambassa. Leaders highlighted the party’s contributions to tribal welfare, while also praising the BJP’s support for the royal family, artists, and intellectuals. State BJP officials termed the meeting a grand success, noting the overwhelming public response.
BJP’s Strategic Shift
Sources within the party confirmed that BJP is frustrated with Pradyot Kishore’s antics. The leadership now aims to strengthen its tribal base and prepare for independent contests in the ADC elections. Seasoned tribal leaders in the party will lead the organizational effort to counter Tipra Motha’s influence.
To this end, senior national BJP leaders, including All India Organizing Secretary B.L. Santosh, are scheduled to visit Agartala in December. They will hold strategy sessions with state leaders to provide guidance on election preparations.
Minister for tribal welfare Bikash Debbarma underlined the importance of organizational readiness. He said that the party intends to consolidate tribal support and showcase its achievements in governance and welfare. Moreover, the BJP plans to highlight its contributions in healthcare, education, infrastructure, and cultural preservation to gain voter confidence.
Focus on Tribal Welfare and Political Mobilization
The BJP leadership is also emphasizing grassroots engagement. Party leaders are touring remote areas, meeting tribal communities, and presenting BJP’s development record. MP Rebati Tripura stated that these outreach efforts aim to demonstrate the party’s commitment to tribal welfare independently of Tipra Motha support.
“The party will fight the ADC elections with a clear agenda and strong organizational backing,” Rebati Tripura said. He added that BJP will ensure tribal voices are represented effectively in local governance.
Looking Ahead to the ADC Elections
The BJP’s preparations reflect a decisive shift in strategy. Senior leaders are confident that the party can contest the upcoming ADC elections independently. Sources said the visit by B.L. Santosh and other national leaders will finalize election tactics and strengthen BJP’s grassroots machinery.
With MP Rebati Tripura leading the charge, the BJP aims to counter Tipra Motha’s influence politically while highlighting its governance record. Leaders are confident that showcasing tangible achievements in tribal welfare will resonate with voters across Ambassa and other constituencies.
Political Implications
Political analysts note that BJP’s move signals a more aggressive approach in tribal politics. By reducing dependence on Tipra Motha, the party hopes to expand its support base among indigenous communities. Analysts also suggest that independent contestation could reshape Tripura’s political dynamics, especially in tribal-dominated areas.
BJP leaders remain tight-lipped on the exact election strategy but emphasized organizational preparedness, community engagement, and a focus on tribal welfare. The December strategy sessions in Agartala are expected to provide clarity on candidate selection, campaign messaging, and grassroots mobilization.
