Two-Day Training for Solar Vendors and Supervisors
Tripura has taken a major step to accelerate rooftop solar adoption under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), in collaboration with German development agency GIZ, organised a specialised two-day training programme to strengthen technical capacity across the state.
The workshop took place at the TSECL auditorium and brought together 56 solar vendors and billing supervisors. Officials said the programme aimed to improve skills while ensuring safe, reliable, and high-quality rooftop solar installations.

Focus on Quality and Safety Standards
The training placed strong emphasis on installation quality and long-term system performance. Participants learned best practices to ensure durable solar systems with minimal maintenance needs.
Experts highlighted the importance of adhering to safety norms and technical standards. Officials said quality-driven installations would help build public confidence in rooftop solar systems and support wider adoption.
Hands-On Training Using Global Expertise
GIZ leveraged its global experience in renewable energy to deliver hands-on training sessions. Participants received practical guidance on rooftop solar installations across different settings, including concrete rooftops, tin sheds, and open spaces.
The sessions covered advanced installation techniques, modern tools, and solar design software. Trainers also explained internationally recognised safety protocols, with a special focus on grid-connected and hybrid photovoltaic systems.
Benefits for Consumers and Installers
Participants said the programme significantly enhanced their technical knowledge and confidence. Many noted that the hands-on approach helped them better handle complex installation challenges.
Consumers are expected to benefit directly from the initiative. Officials said trained technicians would deliver safer, more durable, and cost-effective solar systems. Reduced maintenance needs are also likely to lower long-term costs for households.
Building on GIZ’s Solar Workforce Initiatives
The Tripura training programme builds on GIZ’s long-standing work in India’s renewable energy sector. Initiatives such as Suryamitra, iRISE, and the Indo-German Solar Partnership have already strengthened the country’s solar workforce.
Officials said the Tripura programme aligns with national clean energy goals. It also supports India’s broader transition toward sustainable and decentralised power generation.
Call for Households to Join PM Surya Ghar Scheme
Speaking at the event, TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu urged households to enrol under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. He said trained technicians would ensure quality service and reliable system performance.
Basu highlighted that the scheme allows families to significantly reduce or eliminate electricity bills. He added that households can also earn income by selling surplus solar power back to the grid.
Strengthening Trust in Rooftop Solar
Officials said the collaboration between TSECL and GIZ reflects Tripura’s commitment to quality-driven renewable energy development. The initiative aims to strengthen public trust in rooftop solar solutions.
By focusing on skill development and safety standards, the state is positioning rooftop solar as a sustainable and economically attractive option for residents. Officials added that such initiatives would play a key role in achieving Tripura’s clean energy targets.
