Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the pivotal role of good governance in transforming the Northeastern region during his address at the ‘Good Governance through Effective Implementation’ conference held in Gurugram, Haryana. He highlighted that governance based on transparency, accountability, and citizen-centric policies could uplift the socio-economic fabric of the region, enabling its integration into mainstream development narratives.

Dr. Saha underlined that good governance forms the backbone of sustainable progress in a region like the Northeast, which has faced historical challenges such as geographical isolation, underdeveloped infrastructure, and socio-economic disparities. He credited the focused efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their visionary leadership, which has paved the way for unprecedented development in the region.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the implementation of flagship central schemes had brought visible changes to Tripura’s landscape. He referred to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Jal Jeevan Mission, and Ayushman Bharat as game-changers for the rural populace. These initiatives have provided housing, clean drinking water, and health security to thousands, ensuring that the benefits of governance reach the remotest corners of the state.

Dr. Saha elaborated on how digital interventions had streamlined service delivery. Tripura has leveraged technology to digitize government processes, making services accessible to citizens without unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles. From e-Governance initiatives to the rapid expansion of internet connectivity, he stressed that digital inclusion had reduced the gap between the government and its people.

In the realm of law and order, the Chief Minister lauded the efforts to bring peace and stability to the region. He noted that the government had invested in modernizing the police force and strengthening security measures, which had significantly reduced insurgency and fostered an environment conducive to growth. He attributed these achievements to the cooperative approach adopted by the state and central governments.

Education and healthcare also featured prominently in his discourse. Dr. Saha spoke of the strides made in improving literacy rates and access to quality healthcare. The state has introduced several welfare measures, such as free school uniforms, scholarships, and midday meals, which have increased school enrollment rates. Healthcare infrastructure has been bolstered with new hospitals, mobile health units, and telemedicine facilities, ensuring no one is left behind.

The Chief Minister highlighted the success of the state’s initiatives to empower women and marginalized communities. He noted the increased participation of women in self-help groups, which had opened up avenues for entrepreneurship and financial independence. Similarly, special welfare schemes for tribal communities had improved their quality of life and ensured their integration into the development process.

Dr. Saha also addressed the importance of infrastructure development in boosting the region’s connectivity. He mentioned the ongoing projects to enhance roadways, railways, and air connectivity in Tripura, which have linked the state to national and international markets. He praised the establishment of the Maitri Setu, a bridge connecting India and Bangladesh, which has opened new trade corridors and economic opportunities for Tripura.

The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude for the recognition Tripura has received for its governance model. He noted that accolades such as the SKOCH Awards for governance reforms and other national-level acknowledgments reflect the collective effort of the government and its people.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Saha stressed the need to maintain the momentum of progress. He encouraged civil servants, policymakers, and stakeholders to adopt a results-oriented approach and remain committed to the welfare of the people. “Good governance is not just a policy; it is a way of life,” he stated, calling upon the nation to continue supporting the Northeast’s journey toward becoming a hub of growth and innovation.

The conference in Gurugram, which saw participation from leaders and officials across India, provided a platform to showcase Tripura’s achievements and share best practices. The event served as a testament to how good governance, when implemented effectively, can transform even the most challenging terrains into thriving regions of opportunity and hope.
