Tripura CM Pushes for Trade Facilitation with Bangladesh at NEC Plenary

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, participating in the 71st Plenary of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong, has presented six vital requests focused on enhancing regional development.

Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their dedicated attention to Tripura’s advancement, Dr. Saha outlined his proposals during the event.

Key Requests for Regional Development

In his speech, Dr. Saha articulated the following key requests:

1. Increased Allocation of NEC Funds

Dr. Saha emphasized the need for a higher allocation of funds from the North Eastern Council to support various developmental initiatives in Tripura.

2. Upgrading TMC into AIIMS-like Institute

The Chief Minister called for the transformation of the Tripura Medical College (TMC) into an institute akin to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for advanced healthcare facilities.

3. Establishment of Medical College in TTAADC Area

Dr. Saha proposed the establishment of a Medical College in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) region to enhance healthcare accessibility.

4. Increased Natural Gas Allocation for Industrial Purpose

Acknowledging the importance of natural gas for industrial growth, the Chief Minister sought an augmented allocation to support industrial activities in the state.

5. Early Operationalisation of Agartala-Cox Bazaar International Flight

Highlighting the significance of international connectivity, Dr. Saha urged the expedited commencement of the Agartala-Cox Bazaar international flight for improved accessibility.

6. Easing Barriers for Trade with Bangladesh

Dr. Saha emphasized the necessity of reducing trade barriers with Bangladesh to facilitate smoother and more extensive economic collaboration.
