Tripura CM Urges Declaration of Agartala Airport as International Airport and Direct Flights to Mumbai and Hyderabad

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha met with Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia in Delhi on Monday to discuss various issues related to air connectivity in the state. The Chief Minister urged the Minister to declare the MBB Airport at Agartala as an international airport, and also raised the need for direct flights from Agartala to Mumbai and Hyderabad, as well as the operation of night flight services and re-introduction of air cargo services from Tripura.

In a tweet after the meeting, Chief Minister Saha stated, “Today called on Hon’ble @MoCA_GoI Shri @JM_Scindia ji in New Delhi. We interacted on various matters including declaration of MBB Airport as International Airport, installation of Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya’s statue at new airport terminal, introducing direct flight from Agartala to Mumbai & Hyderabad, operation of night flights & re-introduction of air cargo services from #Tripura.”

The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of declaring MBB Airport at Agartala as an international airport to boost the state’s connectivity with other countries and promote trade and tourism. He also emphasized the need for direct flights to major cities like Mumbai and Hyderabad, which would facilitate travel for business and leisure purposes, and help in the economic growth of Tripura.

In addition, Chief Minister Saha raised the issue of night flight services, which would enable better connectivity for passengers traveling to and from Tripura during late hours. He also emphasized the importance of re-introducing air cargo services, which would facilitate the transportation of goods and boost trade in the region.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister requested the installation of a statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya at the new airport terminal, as a tribute to the former ruler of Tripura and to promote the state’s rich cultural heritage.
