Tripura has completed 805.99 kilometres of barbed-wire fencing along its 856-kilometre international border with Bangladesh, the state Home Department informed the Assembly. However, nearly 50 kilometres of the border still lacks completed fencing. The government has identified several pending stretches across South Tripura, Dhalai, North Tripura, Khowai and Sepahijala districts.
Officials cited difficult terrain, rivers, streams, objections from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and delays by construction agencies as major reasons for the incomplete work. The state government has also asked the Centre to intervene and speed up construction of the remaining stretches.

The Tripura Home Department provided the latest information in a written reply to a question raised by Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma in the state Assembly.
Debbarma sought details about the progress of border fencing, the locations where construction remains incomplete and steps taken to accelerate the work.
According to the Home Department, authorities have completed 805.99 km of barbed-wire fencing along Tripura’s 856-km international border with Bangladesh.
However, several stretches still remain without completed fencing.
Several Areas Await Completion
The pending stretches cover multiple parts of the state.
These include Belonia in South Tripura, Longtharai Valley, Kamalpur, Ambassa and Gandacherra in Dhalai district, Kanchanpur in North Tripura, Khowai and Sonamura in Sepahijala district.
The government has repeatedly raised the issue with the Centre. It has requested intervention to ensure that agencies complete the remaining fencing work as quickly as possible.
Difficult Terrain Delays Construction
The Home Department attributed the delays to several geographical and operational challenges.
In some locations, steep and elevated terrain makes construction difficult. Rivers and streams also cross proposed fencing routes, creating additional engineering challenges.
Furthermore, the Border Guard Bangladesh has raised objections at certain locations. Delays by construction agencies have also slowed progress.
As a result, the government continues to face difficulties in completing fencing across the remaining border stretches.
Border Security Remains a Priority
The incomplete fencing remains an important concern for border management in Tripura.
With nearly 50 km still awaiting completion, authorities want to accelerate construction to strengthen surveillance and border security.
