The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has announced a statewide agitational programme against the alleged anti-people policies of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. The protest will begin on August 30 and continue till October 6, covering multiple districts across the state.
Speaking to the media at the Congress Bhawan, senior party leader and TPCC spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty accused the BJP-led government of failing on every front, including law and order, employment, and social security. He alleged that the situation in Tripura is deteriorating with each passing day, leaving the common people frustrated and insecure.
“No Law and Order in Tripura”
Highlighting the worsening security scenario, Chakraborty alleged that the BJP leaders and workers are engaged in “anti-social activities” across the state. Referring specifically to the situation in Bishalgarh subdivision, he claimed that incidents of extortion, commission trading, and collection of cut money have become rampant.
“There is virtually no law and order in the state. BJP leaders and workers are looting public money, and the police have turned into silent spectators,” Chakraborty stated.
He further criticized the state government for failing to control the rise in drug peddling and smuggling, which he said is destroying the youth of Tripura. According to him, while the drug menace spreads, those in power are “immersed in corruption.”
Over 50,000 Vacant Posts in Administration
The TPCC leader also raised concerns about unemployment in Tripura. He pointed out that more than 50,000 posts in various government departments remain vacant, yet the administration has taken no steps to fill them.
Chakraborty reminded people of the BJP’s pre-election promise in 2018, where the party had assured jobs “on a missed call.” However, he said the ruling party has now completely ignored its commitment to the unemployed youth.
Particular criticism was directed at the delayed TET (Teachers’ Eligibility Test) results. Candidates who appeared for the TET exam in 2022 are still awaiting results even after nearly three years, with no clarification from the Education Department. “These youths are moving from one office to another in search of answers, but the government and the education minister remain silent,” he added.
Rising Crimes and Crimes Against Women
Chakraborty also accused the government of ignoring the alarming rise in crimes, especially crimes against women. He alleged that many ruling party members themselves are involved in such activities, which is why no strong measures are being taken to curb them.
“The BJP government has failed completely. From corruption to unemployment to crime, the state is facing one crisis after another. Only Congress can provide Tripura with a responsible and accountable government,” he asserted.
Protest Programme to Begin August 30
The Congress leader outlined the agitational programme, stating that the movement will start with a massive procession on August 30. The rally will begin in front of the Agartala Press Club and march through the town before reaching the state secretariat, where the party plans to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister.
The TPCC has called upon the people of Tripura to join the protests in large numbers to “save the state from misrule.”
Conclusion
With the BJP government facing mounting criticism from the opposition, the upcoming Congress agitation is expected to intensify political heat in Tripura. As the state gears up for the protest campaign lasting over a month, all eyes will be on how the ruling party responds to the accusations and the demands raised by the Congress.
