Key Facts

CPI(M) Starts Election Preparations

The CPI(M) has begun organisational preparations across Tripura’s urban areas ahead of the upcoming civic elections.

Jitendra Chaudhury said the party would use the campaign to discuss issues affecting residents and urban governance. According to him, the party wants to connect civic administration with accountability and people’s rights.

Meanwhile, the CPI(M) has also started public outreach programmes in areas under the TTAADC.

“We have fought earlier and we will fight again,” Chaudhury said, while expressing confidence about the party’s public outreach. He also claimed that the party was receiving a positive response from people.

Chaudhury Focuses on Urban Governance

Chaudhury criticised the BJP-led state government’s record in urban areas. However, his comments represent the CPI(M) leader’s political assessment rather than an independently established finding.

According to Chaudhury, authorities should view urban development beyond roads, drains, drinking water and electricity.

He said urban administration should also address the social and cultural aspects of city life. Additionally, he called for greater accountability in civic administration.

The CPI(M) leader alleged that residents continue to face problems with roads, lanes and drainage systems despite government spending and repeated development targets.

“Again and again, targets are being announced, but they are not being achieved,” he alleged.

CPI(M) Raises Allegations of Extortion

Chaudhury also raised allegations concerning extortion and what he described as the influence of “mafias” in everyday activities.

He claimed that some people face demands for commissions during land transactions, house repairs and purchases of construction materials.

According to his allegation, such demands involve items including bricks, cement and steel rods.

However, these claims remain allegations made by the opposition leader and have not been independently established in the information available for this report.

Party Plans Public Outreach

The CPI(M) plans to take these civic issues directly to voters during its election campaign.

Chaudhury said the party would seek to mobilise public opinion around democratic and accountable administration.

At the same time, the party has begun strengthening its organisational network in urban areas.

The upcoming election campaign will therefore focus on civic services as well as broader questions about local administration.
