Crime Rate Sees Notable Decline

According to official data shared during the event, Tripura recorded an 8.20% drop in overall crime in 2025 compared to 2024. Registered cases fell from 4,033 in 2024 to 3,698 in 2025.

Property-related offences declined by 16%. Similarly, crimes against the body dropped by 14.54%. Importantly, crimes against women decreased by 8.1% during the same period.

To strengthen women’s safety, the government established nine all-women police stations. In addition, authorities set up 24×7 help desks across the state. These measures have improved accessibility and response time for women in distress.

Zero Accident Programme Shows Results

The Chief Minister also highlighted progress under the state’s Zero Accident Programme. Officials identified 16 black spots and 84 accident-prone zones across Tripura. After identifying these areas, authorities deployed interceptor vehicles in every district to enforce traffic rules more effectively.

As a result, road accidents declined by 8.82% in 2025. Moreover, fatalities dropped by 13%, reflecting stronger enforcement and awareness measures.

Intensified Crackdown on Narcotics

Reaffirming a zero-tolerance policy on drugs, Dr. Saha detailed the state’s intensified action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Although NDPS cases rose by 11.06%, the increase reflects stricter enforcement and proactive policing.

Cannabis seizures increased by 14.4%. Seizures of cough syrup surged by 145.73%, while tablet recoveries rose by 26.37%. Notably, authorities destroyed significantly larger quantities of cannabis in 2025. Cannabis destruction operations surged by 94.71%, with the total value of anti-drug operations reaching Rs 1,641.89 crore.

Dr. Saha said the government continues to use satellite imagery, surveillance tools, and coordinated field operations to curb illegal cannabis cultivation. These technology-driven interventions have strengthened the state’s anti-drug campaign.

Action Against Cross-Border Crime

Tripura shares an international border with Bangladesh. Therefore, the Chief Minister described the state police as the “second line of defence” against cross-border crimes.

In 2025, police arrested 576 illegal infiltrators and 102 touts involved in facilitating unauthorized border crossings. These efforts have strengthened border security and disrupted trafficking networks.

Cyber Policing and Modernization

Recognizing the rise in digital crimes, Dr. Saha announced plans to modernize the state’s cyber police station. The upgrade will enhance digital surveillance, forensic capabilities, and cybercrime investigation.

Furthermore, the government plans to introduce specialized training programmes for police personnel. These initiatives will prepare officers to handle cyber threats, financial fraud, and emerging online crimes.

Tribute to Fallen Personnel

Concluding his address, the Chief Minister paid tribute to police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting law enforcement agencies with improved infrastructure, technology, and welfare measures.

Overall, Tripura’s latest crime data indicates measurable progress in public safety, traffic management, and anti-narcotics operations. With continued modernization and strategic enforcement, the state aims to build a safer and more secure environment in the coming years.
