Election Security Reviewed
The State Election Commission held two meetings to review preparations for the Village Committee elections. One meeting took place in hybrid mode and included the Director General of Police, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), District Election Officers-cum-District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police.
Officials discussed law-and-order measures and steps to maintain a peaceful campaign environment. They also reviewed arrangements to ensure that participating candidates and political parties can operate under the prescribed election rules.
74 CAPF Companies to Support Poll Security
The Commission has arranged 74 CAPF companies for the election. The personnel will remain involved during the pre-poll, polling and post-poll phases.

The Commission has instructed District Magistrates, Collectors and Superintendents of Police to maintain peace and build confidence among voters. Officials have also made arrangements to help representatives of participating political parties reach their designated polling stations on time.
48-Hour Silence Period Announced
The Commission has reiterated restrictions under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and Representation of the People Act, 1951.
The restrictions will apply from 4 pm on September 26 until 6 am on September 28, 2026. During this period, campaigning and canvassing will not be allowed.
Election-related content intended to influence voters will also face restrictions through television, radio, cable networks, social media, digital platforms and print media within the applicable polling areas.
Media and Loudspeaker Rules
The Commission has advised news organisations to avoid election-related debates, discussions, opinions and opinion polls that could influence voters during the restricted period.
Authorities may take action against violations under applicable laws.
The Commission has also reiterated that loudspeakers can operate only between 6 am and 10 pm. Officials have been asked to prevent excessive noise from affecting children, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
Polling Stations to Get Basic Facilities
District Election Officers have received instructions to provide basic facilities at every polling station.
These facilities include drinking water, electricity and essential furniture. The Commission wants polling stations to remain functional and accessible throughout polling.
Election Observers to Monitor Poll Process
In a separate meeting, the State Election Commission briefed election observers appointed for the Village Committee elections.
The observers will monitor the process in their assigned areas and focus on transparency, uniform implementation of election rules and compliance with official guidelines. They will also submit reports to the Commission.
