Tripura Government Introduces Common School Uniform Policy

The Directorate of Secondary Education, Government of Tripura, has issued a memorandum announcing the implementation of a standardized school uniform for students of Classes I to XII in all government schools.

According to the order, the uniform rule will apply to Vidya Jyoti Schools, PM-SHRI Schools, and all other government schools under the state education department. The policy has been introduced to bring consistency, promote equality, and create a unified identity among students across Tripura.

The directive, however, will not apply to four institutions: Shishu Bihar H.S. School, Sukhamoy H.S. School, Umakanta Academy (all in West Tripura District), and PM SHRI Radha Kishore Institution in Unakoti District. These schools will continue with their existing dress codes.

For the current academic year, students are permitted to wear both the existing and newly prescribed uniforms to ensure a smooth transition. From the next academic session, strict compliance with the new uniform policy will be mandatory in all government schools across the state.

Under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, uniforms are already provided to students of Classes I to VIII. The process of distributing the newly prescribed uniforms has started, ensuring that students receive them in time.

District Education Officers (DEOs) have been directed to instruct principals, headmasters, and teachers-in-charge to implement the policy in their schools and report back on the progress.

The memorandum, signed by the Additional Secretary of the Education (School) Department, has made it clear that the directive must be followed with immediate effect.

With this move, the Tripura government has taken a major step toward ensuring discipline, equality, and uniformity in its education system.
