In a bid to promote Tripura as a major national and international tourist destination, the state government has announced an investment of Rs. 1000 crore. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha revealed the comprehensive tourism promotion plan during his address at the 8th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog in New Delhi. The initiative aims to enhance the last mile connectivity, develop accommodation facilities, improve infrastructure in tourist destinations, and strengthen the skills of the workforce engaged in the tourism sector.

Under the tourism promotion plan, the Tripura government plans to focus on improving connectivity, making it easier for tourists to access various attractions in the state. This includes upgrading transportation networks and enhancing connectivity to popular tourist spots. By improving transportation infrastructure, the government aims to make Tripura more accessible and attractive to both domestic and international visitors.

Additionally, the state government intends to develop accommodation facilities to cater to the growing number of tourists. This would involve the construction of hotels, resorts, and guesthouses in strategic locations across Tripura. The aim is to provide comfortable and convenient lodging options to visitors, ensuring a pleasant experience during their stay.

Infrastructure development in tourist destinations is another crucial aspect of the tourism promotion plan. By enhancing the overall infrastructure, the state aims to create a positive and memorable experience for tourists.

To further boost tourism, the Tripura government is set to launch the “Tripura Medical Tourism Policy.” This policy aims to position Tripura as a center for wellness tourism by incentivizing the establishment of ayurvedic parks, panchakarma centers, yoga and wellness retreats, and naturopathy centers. The focus on medical tourism will not only attract tourists seeking wellness and rejuvenation but also contribute to the growth of the healthcare industry in the state.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s plans for industrial development. The state has identified over 2000 acres of land for industrial projects, public-private partnerships, special economic zones, and sector-specific initiatives in areas such as rubber, agar, bamboo, and food processing. The Asian Development Bank has agreed to extend a loan to upgrade 15 industrial estates, further boosting the industrial sector in Tripura.

In terms of financial investments, the state government has significantly increased its capital expenditure from Rs. 835 crore in 2020-21 to Rs. 2200 crore in the financial year 2022-23, representing an impressive growth rate of about 62 percent. The government has also identified and submitted eight projects worth Rs. 109.19 crore to the concerned ministry for promotion of industry and internal trade. Of these, four projects worth Rs. 35 crore have already been sanctioned by the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance. The Tripura Integrated Logistics Policy, 2022 has been framed and notified, further facilitating trade and commerce in the state.

During his address, the Chief Minister also highlighted various initiatives in skill development, health and nutrition, women empowerment, infrastructure development, MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises), and other sectors. These initiatives reflect the government’s holistic approach to promoting overall growth and development in Tripura.
