Tripura Government to Rename 75 Border Villages after Freedom Fighters

Tripura CM Manik Saha

In a significant move, the Tripura government has announced its decision to rename 75 border villages in the state after the names of freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives during India’s independence movement. This initiative is part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ a program designed to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of India’s independence and the remarkable history, culture, and achievements of its people. The project aims to recall and honor the invaluable contributions made by freedom fighters towards securing the nation’s freedom.

Scheduled to commence in July and be completed by August 15, the program will involve the identification of 75 border villages spread across all eight districts by district-level committees. The state administration has already prepared a list of freedom fighters from Tripura, along with details of their significant contributions to the country’s freedom struggle, as confirmed by Information and Cultural Affairs Secretary PK Chakravorty.

To pay homage to these brave individuals, statues of the 75 freedom fighters will be erected in the respective villages, accompanied by felicitation ceremonies organized by the government to honor their family members. Additionally, a series of events and activities will be held to mark the occasion, including marathons, bicycle rallies, krantiveer musical concerts, sit and draw competitions, as well as songs and dramas depicting the lives and achievements of the freedom fighters, as shared by Chakravorty.

Furthermore, special attention will be given to improving the connectivity of all 75 identified villages through the development of roadways. The government is committed to ensuring the complete implementation of all central and state-sponsored schemes in these villages to enhance the overall well-being of the residents. Chief Minister Manik Saha has already conducted a meeting with Chief Secretary JK Sinha and other senior officials to ensure the success of the initiative.

Inspired by the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ event, a nationwide initiative by the Central Government to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence, Chief Minister Saha expressed his desire for the program to be held in all 75 villages. The Central Government has already approved a budget of Rs 3.13 crore for the implementation of this plan.

The government intends to involve people from all sections of society, ranging from students to the elderly, in the program. The Information and Cultural Affairs Department plans to launch an extensive campaign across various media platforms, including traditional and social media, to rekindle the pride and remembrance of India’s glorious freedom struggle.

The renaming of these border villages after the freedom fighters serves as a poignant tribute to their sacrifices and a reminder of the courage and resilience displayed by those who fought for India’s freedom. It is a symbolic gesture that not only preserves their legacy but also instills a sense of patriotism and respect among the residents of these villages.
