Tripura Governor Inaugurates National Seminar on Women’s Empowerment and Mental Well-Being in Agartala

Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu on Thursday inaugurated a two-day national seminar titled “Pressing Women’s Issues, Mental Well-Being and Empowerment: The Way Forward” at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) College in Agartala. The seminar aims to promote discussions on gender equality, women’s empowerment, and mental health.

The inaugural programme began at 10:00 am. Academicians, government officials, faculty members, and students attended the event. The Governor joined the programme as the chief guest and officially opened the seminar.

Focus on Women’s Issues and Mental Well-Being

In her welcome address, Dr. Deepa Ghosh, organising secretary and convenor of the Women’s Cell of the college, stressed the need to discuss challenges faced by women today. She said academic platforms play an important role in promoting awareness and solutions.

Dr. Ghosh also highlighted the role of educational institutions in strengthening conversations around women’s empowerment and mental health. She encouraged students and scholars to engage in meaningful research on these topics.

Cultural Welcome and Student Participation

The programme began with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp. The organisers honoured dignitaries with saplings and traditional Risa, reflecting Tripura’s cultural heritage.

Students of the college presented an inaugural song that highlighted resilience and empowerment. Their performance added a cultural touch to the academic event.

Students also participated in discussions. Final-semester students Shagri Jamatia and Tanmoy Debnath shared their views on gender equality. They spoke about the role young people can play in building an inclusive society.

The organisers also held a poster competition as part of the seminar. During the programme, dignitaries distributed prizes to the winners.

Government and Academic Perspectives

Speaking at the event, Animesh Debbarma highlighted the state government’s commitment to improving educational systems that support women’s development. He said stronger education systems can help women achieve social and economic progress.

Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu praised the college for organising a seminar on such an important issue. He said women’s empowerment must include mental and emotional well-being.

The Governor also urged educational institutions and policymakers to work together. According to him, society must take practical steps to support women’s growth and dignity.

Keynote Address and Academic Session

The seminar also included an academic session with several speakers. Bibhas Deb attended the programme as the guest of honour. Sibnath Deb joined as the special guest.

Keynote speaker Rekha Pande spoke about the history of the women’s movement in India. She also discussed the future direction of gender equality efforts in the country.

The inaugural session ended with a vote of thanks by MBB College Principal Dr. Arjun Gope. He thanked the guests, organisers, and participants for their contributions.

Two-Day Seminar to Continue Discussions

The two-day seminar will continue with paper presentations and panel discussions. Scholars, researchers, and students will participate in these sessions.

The discussions will focus on women’s issues, empowerment strategies, and mental well-being. Organisers hope the seminar will generate ideas that can support gender equality and social progress.
