Government Focuses on Rural Women and Tribal Livelihoods
The Tripura government has intensified efforts to improve rural livelihoods and strengthen economic opportunities for tribal communities across the state.
Speaking at the TRESP workshop in Agartala, Minister Sudhangshu Das said empowering rural women and tribal families remains one of the government’s key priorities.
He said the project supports self-help groups and helps women build sustainable sources of income through training and financial assistance.
TRESP Project Backed by World Bank
The minister said the Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project started two years ago with assistance from the World Bank.
The project follows an 80:20 funding pattern. According to the minister, the World Bank sanctioned more than Rs 1,200 crore, while the state government contributed another Rs 200 crore.
Officials said the project aims to strengthen rural economic growth and improve service delivery systems in tribal and remote areas.
Women Groups Receive Training and Support
Under the TRESP initiative, authorities are forming Producer Groups (PGs) consisting of 20 to 30 women, mainly from self-help groups.
The women receive training in sectors such as piggery, poultry, fisheries, and other allied livelihood activities.
The government has also appointed trained master trainers known as Pashu Sakhis and Matsya Sakhis to guide the groups at the grassroots level.
Officials said the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) provides financial assistance to help women establish income-generating activities.
Demand for Meat, Milk and Eggs Increasing
Sudhangshu Das said demand for meat, milk, and eggs continues to rise in Tripura.
The government is now working to increase local production while improving the socio-economic condition of tribal households.
He added that TRESP has become one of the flagship development projects for areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
Workshop Focused on Value Addition
During the workshop, participants attended sessions on value-added product development.
Officials trained Producer Group members in food processing, branding, packaging, and marketing to improve product quality and market value.
The department also distributed kits among Pashu Sakhis to strengthen extension services in villages and rural communities.
Bharat Sanjivani App Launched
The minister launched the “Bharat Sanjivani” mobile application during the programme.
Officials said the app will help people access Mobile Veterinary Unit (MVU) services more quickly, especially in remote rural areas.
The digital platform aims to improve veterinary healthcare access for livestock owners and farmers across Tripura.
Welfare Measures for Tea Workers
Sudhangshu Das also highlighted welfare programmes for tea garden workers under the Mukhyamantri Cha Sramik Unnayan Prakalp.
He said the government has introduced measures such as wage revisions, housing assistance, and ration support for tea workers.
According to the minister, these initiatives aim to improve the living standards of marginalized communities and promote economic self-reliance.
Government Promotes Community-Based Development
The minister said the combined implementation of TRESP and other welfare schemes reflects the government’s focus on community-driven development.
Officials believe skill training, financial support, and improved rural services will help strengthen the rural economy in the coming years.
The government also plans to expand support systems for women-led livelihood activities in tribal and remote regions.
Importance of Tripura and Northeast India
Tripura plays an important role in rural and tribal development in Northeast India. The state has a large tribal population and significant rural economy-based communities. Projects like TRESP aim to improve livelihoods, encourage women-led enterprises, and strengthen economic growth in remote areas of the region.
