Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday reassured citizens that the state has not recorded any Nipah virus case so far. His statement came after reports of suspected infections in neighboring West Bengal raised public concern.

While addressing the media, Dr. Saha said preliminary inputs suggested three suspected Nipah virus cases in West Bengal. However, he clarified that Tripura remains unaffected at present. At the same time, the government has already activated precautionary measures.

According to the Chief Minister, the state prefers prevention over reaction. “There is no Nipah virus case in Tripura at this moment,” he said. “Still, we have instructed officials to take all necessary precautions.”

Health Department Increases Vigilance Across Tripura

Notably, Dr. Saha explained that fruit bats act as natural carriers of the Nipah virus. Therefore, he directed the Health Department to remain alert and proactive.

Soon after his instructions, health officials alerted hospitals and district authorities statewide. As a result, medical facilities have strengthened preparedness to manage any suspected case.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister urged citizens not to panic or rely on unverified information. Instead, he advised people to trust official updates.

“There is no reason for fear,” Dr. Saha said. “People should stay cautious and follow health advisories.”

NHM Confirms Zero Active Nipah Virus Cases

Meanwhile, National Health Mission (NHM) Mission Director Saju Vaheed A confirmed that Tripura currently has no active Nipah virus cases. He said the state has stepped up surveillance as a precautionary move.

At present, hospitals have enhanced isolation facilities and infection control practices. Additionally, health authorities have started training sessions for doctors and nurses to identify symptoms early.

As part of preparedness, officials have reviewed readiness protocols. Consequently, healthcare workers now stand better equipped to manage suspected infections if required.

Public Health Advisory Issued

To minimize any potential risk, health authorities have issued a detailed public advisory. Citizens have been asked to avoid consuming raw date palm sap or toddy.

Moreover, officials advised residents to eat only properly washed and peeled fruits. They also warned against eating fruits found on the ground or partially eaten by animals.

In addition, authorities stressed the importance of regular handwashing with soap and water. People should also avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of illness.

Importantly, the advisory urges citizens to follow government guidelines on patient care and the safe handling of deceased persons, if necessary.

Government Assures Continuous Monitoring

Finally, Dr. Saha reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding public health. He said monitoring and surveillance will continue across Tripura.

Going forward, the state will review the situation regularly. The Chief Minister called on citizens to cooperate with health authorities and remain alert.

“Public awareness plays a crucial role,” he said. “With cooperation, we can prevent any possible spread.”
