₹56,000 Stolen From Goods Vehicle
The theft occurred around 11 am on September 12 in the Shibnagar area near Lotus Club.
According to Maharaj Ganj Market Police Outpost Officer-in-Charge Dipankar Debnath, the vehicle carried a bag containing ₹56,000 in cash and one or two cheques.
At the time, the vehicle owner and driver were busy loading goods at the rear of the vehicle. Meanwhile, the accused allegedly took the bag from near the driver’s seat.
As a result, the vehicle occupants discovered the theft after the suspects had left the area.
Police Launch Investigation
After receiving the complaint, police registered a case and immediately began investigating the incident.
During the investigation, officers apprehended one suspect. Police then recovered ₹10,000 from his possession.
Furthermore, investigators questioned the suspect about the alleged theft. His interrogation reportedly helped police identify two more alleged accomplices.
Following these leads, officers arrested two additional suspects. Police later traced the three accused near the Lalmatia Bipani Bitan Market Society.
Three Persons Arrested
Police identified the prime accused as Sagar Roy, son of Manoj Roy, from the Jogendranagar-Vidyasagar area.
Officers also arrested Bishal Saha and Jumon Mia in connection with the case. Police are now questioning the three accused as part of the ongoing investigation.
However, investigators believe more people could have links to the alleged gang. According to OC Dipankar Debnath, police have identified another eight to nine persons who may be connected to the group.
Search Underway for Remaining Suspects
Police are now working to locate the remaining suspects. At the same time, investigators are trying to recover the rest of the stolen money and any other property linked to the case.
The accused reportedly collect and sell plastic and other waste materials. Nevertheless, police are also examining their possible involvement in other criminal activities.
Further investigation will determine the extent of the alleged group’s activities. Police have not yet disclosed whether they have recovered the cheques reportedly kept inside the stolen bag.
Accused to Appear in Court
The three arrested persons are scheduled to appear before the court today.
Police are expected to present details of the investigation before the court as they continue efforts to identify and arrest the remaining suspects.
Meanwhile, the recovery of ₹10,000 has provided investigators with an initial lead in tracing the stolen amount.
