Rao said security deployment would be increased compared with Durga Puja 2025. Last year, around 10,000 police and TSR personnel were deployed across the state.
This year, the force is expected to increase according to local security requirements and crowd levels.
CCTV Cameras and Watchtowers Planned
Police will strengthen surveillance by installing around 180 additional CCTV cameras at important locations. A total of 169 watchtowers are also planned for crowd monitoring and security observation.
Additional vehicles will be hired to support mobile patrolling. In Agartala, police have already increased patrols in busy shopping and market areas.
Twenty-nine additional bike patrol teams have been deployed in areas experiencing heavy public movement.
Women police personnel will be deployed in greater numbers. Plainclothes officers will also monitor crowded areas for suspicious activities and potential crimes.
Traffic Plan and Emergency Green Corridor
Traffic management will be a major part of the Durga Puja security plan, particularly in Agartala, where around 450 celebrations are expected.
Police have planned parking arrangements, no-entry zones, stopping restrictions and transportation measures. Essential-service passes will also be issued where required.
A green corridor is being planned for emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire tenders. The arrangement aims to prevent delays when emergency services need to move through crowded areas.
In Agartala, no-entry restrictions will remain in force from 5 pm to 1 am during the specified Puja period. A traffic control room will operate round the clock to monitor traffic and respond to emergencies.
Security at Railway Stations
Security measures have also been strengthened at railway stations across the state. The Government Railway Police (GRP) will take additional steps to monitor passenger movement and maintain security during the festive period.
Police have also held meetings with Puja committees and local police stations to coordinate security arrangements, volunteer deployment and crowd management.
Five Extortion Cases Registered
According to Rao, police have registered five extortion cases related to Puja activities so far this year. This compares with two such cases reported during the same period last year.
Police warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals involved in extortion or other unlawful activities connected with Durga Puja celebrations.
Anti-Drug Drive Intensified
Tripura Police have also intensified their anti-drug campaign ahead of the festival. Special enforcement measures will continue during Durga Puja to prevent drug-related activities and maintain public safety.
With thousands of people expected to visit Puja pandals, markets and public spaces, police said coordinated surveillance and patrolling would remain a priority.
