Senior Officials Review Poll Preparedness
State Election Commissioner PK Chakraborty and Director General of Police (in-charge) GS Rao chaired the review meeting through video conference.
District election officers, district magistrates and collectors, along with superintendents of police, joined the meeting. Officials assessed the arrangements required for the upcoming elections.
The discussions focused mainly on the prevailing law and order situation. In addition, authorities reviewed security deployment and coordination between different government departments.
Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Ipper Manchak also attended the meeting. Secretary of the State Election Commission Anurag Sen participated as well.
Focus on Peaceful Polling
The State Election Commission stressed the need for effective coordination among all concerned authorities. Adequate security arrangements will play an important role in maintaining a peaceful polling environment.
Furthermore, officials received necessary directions to address election-related requirements. The administration will coordinate with police and election authorities to ensure that voters can participate without disruption.
Security planning remains particularly important because polling will take place across hundreds of Village Committees and thousands of seats.
587 Village Committees to Go to Polls
The elections will cover 587 Village Committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.
Across these committees, polling will take place in 2,634 constituencies. The elections will decide representatives for a total of 4,597 seats.
According to data released by the State Election Commission, 9,820 candidates are currently contesting the elections.
Meanwhile, the nomination withdrawal process saw 1,069 candidates withdraw from the contest. The withdrawals came from several major political parties as well as other parties and independent candidates.
Candidate Withdrawals Across Parties
Among the withdrawn nominations, 105 candidates belonged to the BJP. The CPI(M) recorded 302 withdrawals, while 39 Congress candidates withdrew their nominations.
Similarly, 12 IPFT candidates and 80 Tipra Motha Party candidates pulled out of the race. One CPI candidate also withdrew.
Candidates from other political parties and independent groups accounted for the largest number of withdrawals. A total of 414 candidates from these categories withdrew their nominations.
Despite the withdrawals, thousands of candidates remain in the electoral contest across the TTAADC areas.
Polling and Counting Dates
The Village Committee elections are scheduled for September 28. Voters across the designated constituencies will cast their ballots on that day.
After polling, election authorities will conduct the counting process on October 5. Officials will continue preparations between polling day and the counting date to ensure proper handling of election materials and results.
Therefore, security and administrative coordination will remain important throughout the entire election process.
