TMP-BJP Talks Likely in Delhi
According to TMP MLA Ranjit Debbarma, no meeting took place between TMP leaders and BJP national general secretary (organisation) B L Santosh or Northeast coordinator Sambit Patra during their recent Tripura visit.
However, Debbarma said both parties may meet in Delhi before September 8 to discuss a possible electoral understanding.
BJP Reviews Election Preparations
B L Santosh visited Tripura for two days to assess the BJP’s preparations for the village committee elections.
During his visit, Santosh met Chief Minister Manik Saha, BJP state president Abhishek Debbarma and former state president Rajib Bhattacharjee.
On Wednesday, he also held discussions with the chief minister, state BJP president, ministers, MLAs and senior party leaders at the BJP state headquarters.
The meeting focused on finalising the BJP’s strategy for the upcoming elections.
TMP Prepares for All 4,599 Seats
Meanwhile, the Tipra Motha Party has begun its candidate selection process. TMP MLAs and members of the district council have been asked to identify candidates for all 4,599 seats.
The party’s election committee, headed by general secretary Brishaketu Debbarma, met on Tuesday and discussed its election strategy.
If talks with the BJP fail, TMP plans to contest the village committee elections independently.
