In a landmark step toward promoting women’s empowerment and higher education, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced that the state government is working to set up a Women’s University. The declaration was made while addressing the 64th Teachers’ Day celebrations at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on Friday.
Teachers as the Foundation of Society
During his speech, CM Saha lauded the contribution of teachers, comparing them to the “roots of a tree” that nourish students—the “branches, fruits, and flowers.” He stressed that teachers not only impart knowledge but also shape the moral and cultural foundation of the nation.
“Teaching is a profession that requires mental, physical, and emotional energy. Our government is committed to supporting teachers while ensuring transparent recruitment of qualified faculty under the National Education Policy (NEP),” he said.
Boosting Higher Education in Tripura
The Chief Minister highlighted multiple initiatives already underway to transform Tripura into an educational hub in the Northeast. These include:
- Opening three new government colleges.
- Providing scooters to meritorious female students under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana.
- Waiving college fees for girls to encourage higher enrollment.
- Plans to increase MBBS seats and establish new Dental and Nursing colleges.
The proposal for a dedicated Women’s University is expected to further empower young women, giving them greater access to advanced education and career opportunities within the state.
Focus on Teachers and Education Policy
Reiterating the government’s priority on education, CM Saha said that Tripura is steadily implementing the NEP to align with national standards. He assured that transparent recruitment and professional development of teachers would remain a core agenda.
Financial Relief for Employees
Alongside education, CM Saha touched upon financial reforms for state employees. He noted that the government has increased Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) to 32 percent, significantly narrowing the gap with central government scales.
“Earlier, employees had to take to the streets for DA and DR hikes. Our administration is committed to bridging this gap without protests,” the Chief Minister emphasized.
Honouring Excellence in Education and Social Service
The Teachers’ Day programme also saw the state recognising outstanding contributions in the field of education and society:
- Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar Samman was awarded to Dr. Atul Debbarma.
- Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Samman was conferred on social worker Samir Chakraborty.
- Maharani Tulsibati Samman was presented to Pranati Debbarma, Headmistress of DC Para Hemanta Smriti Vidyalaya.
These awards celebrate the dedication and service of educators and social leaders who continue to inspire Tripura’s youth.
Towards a Brighter Educational Future
With the announcement of the Women’s University and continued investments in colleges, scholarships, and infrastructure, Tripura is making visible progress toward creating a stronger and more inclusive education system. CM Saha’s vision reflects not only a focus on empowering students but also on ensuring teachers receive the recognition and support they deserve.
As the state prepares for the next academic leap, the government’s efforts aim to transform Tripura into a hub of quality, affordable, and accessible education, particularly for women and underprivileged communities.
