Tripura to Offer Unused Tea Estate Land to Investors for New Industrial Projects

Agartala, Tripura: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on October 7 said the state government plans to offer unused tea estate land to potential investors for new industries and institutions. Key Facts

Unused Tea Estate Land for New Investments

Chief Minister Manik Saha said Tripura faces a serious shortage of suitable land for setting up new industries and institutions.

According to Saha, the state’s geographical limitations make it difficult for the government to identify large areas for new projects. He noted that Tripura is the third-smallest state in India.

The Chief Minister said around 70% of Tripura’s geographical area is under Reserved Forest. Therefore, the government has limited land available for industrial and institutional development.

To address the challenge, the government now plans to identify unused tea estate land that could support new ventures.

Saha said the government would allot such land to potential investors for establishing industries and other projects. The move could help Tripura accommodate growing demand for land while promoting investment.

₹1.32 Lakh Crore Investment Proposals

Saha also referred to the Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026, which attracted investment proposals worth around ₹1.32 lakh crore.

However, the proposed investments have also highlighted the state’s land constraints. The government needs suitable locations to establish the industries and institutions linked to these investment proposals.

The tea estate land plan could provide an additional option for investors. At the same time, the government will need to balance development requirements with environmental and land-use considerations.

Healthcare Infrastructure Expands

The Chief Minister made the announcement while inaugurating the Homoeopathic Medical College and Netaji Subhash Homeopathic Hospital at Ranter’s Colony in West Tripura.

The new facility marks another addition to the state’s growing healthcare infrastructure. Saha said Tripura has made significant progress in healthcare services over the past few years.

He said three medical colleges are currently functioning in Tripura, together offering around 500 MBBS seats.

Furthermore, the Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital provides postgraduate medical courses in several disciplines.

New Medical College Planned in Dhalai

Saha also said another private medical college is coming up at Ambassa in Dhalai district.

The proposed institution will have 100 MBBS seats, further expanding medical education capacity in the state.

In addition, Tripura now has several nursing colleges, paramedical institutions and pharmacy colleges. These institutions are helping expand both healthcare education and the availability of trained professionals.

Government Wants to Reduce Patient Referrals

Saha said the expansion of healthcare facilities has reduced the need for patients from Tripura to travel outside the state for treatment.

He attributed the decline in referral cases to improvements in medical infrastructure and services. However, the government wants to reduce such referrals further by strengthening healthcare facilities within the state.

The expansion of medical colleges, hospitals and allied healthcare institutions could therefore play an important role in improving access to specialised treatment.
