Agartala, June 25: The Tripura government will operationalise the newly built Agartala Civil Hospital near Jackson Gate from next month to strengthen healthcare services across the state. The government is also constructing a new district hospital in Sepahijala, upgrading several existing hospitals, and recruiting more doctors to improve medical care. Agartala Civil Hospital to Begin Operations
The Tripura government will open the newly constructed Agartala Civil Hospital near Jackson Gate from next month.
Health Secretary Kiran Gitte said the hospital is part of the state’s ongoing effort to improve healthcare infrastructure and provide better medical services to residents.
New District Hospital for Sepahijala
Chief Minister Manik Saha has laid the foundation stone for a new Sepahijala District Hospital.
The hospital will spread across nearly 14 acres and will cost around ₹46 crore. Once completed, it will improve healthcare services in the 15-year-old district.
Upgrades Across Tripura
The government is also upgrading healthcare facilities at the sub-divisional hospitals in Jirania, Mohanpur, and Jampuijala, along with Gomati District Hospital.
In addition, officials have started preparatory work for constructing a new district hospital in Dharmanagar, North Tripura.
More Doctors to Strengthen Healthcare
The Health Department has recruited 214 doctors, and 160 have already joined duty.
Furthermore, the government has started the recruitment process for 40 more doctors from the waiting list. The Finance Department has also approved additional recruitment of medical professionals.
Patient Referrals Drop by 80%
According to Kiran Gitte, referrals of patients to hospitals outside Tripura have declined by nearly 80%.
He credited this improvement to better treatment facilities and expanded medical services within the state.
Tele-Radiology and Two-Shift Services Planned
The government acknowledged a shortage of radiologists at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital.
Therefore, officials are planning to introduce tele-radiology services to improve diagnostic support. The upcoming Agartala Civil Hospital will also operate in two shifts. Moreover, the government is considering a similar system in selected departments of GBP Hospital and Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital to reduce waiting times.
Tripura Continues TB Elimination Efforts
National Health Mission Director Saju Wahid said Tripura is making steady progress towards eliminating tuberculosis.
The Health Department continues to strengthen TB detection, treatment, and patient monitoring across the state.
