Tripura State Election Commissioner Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty said the election process for the upcoming TTAADC Village Committee elections is progressing normally. No Written Complaint Over Nomination Process
Speaking to journalists on Thursday afternoon, Chakraborty said the State Election Commission had not received any written complaint from a political party or individual about obstruction during nomination submission.
He said no one had formally complained about being prevented from submitting nomination papers or facing obstruction at a Returning Officer’s office.
According to the Commissioner, a few isolated incidents occurred during the process. However, he said these incidents did not cause any major disruption.
No Model Polling Stations
Chakraborty also clarified that the Village Committee elections will not have a “model polling station” arrangement.
He explained that the Election Commission of India generally uses such arrangements during Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. The same provision does not apply to these Village Committee polls.
Polling Staff Training From Next Week
The State Election Commissioner said Returning Officers will conduct two rounds of training for polling personnel in their respective areas.
The training may not begin during the current week. However, officials expect it to start from next week.
Returning Officers or experienced officers will conduct the training. The programme will prepare polling personnel for their duties during the election.
Withdrawal Process Still Underway
The withdrawal of candidature remains underway and will continue for two days.
Chakraborty said officials cannot finalize or announce the list of candidates elected uncontested until the withdrawal period ends. Candidates who have submitted nominations still have the option to withdraw.
After the withdrawal process, the concerned Returning Officers will make the final declaration of uncontested candidates in Form 21-A.
31 Seats Under Verification
Journalists also asked about 31 seats where only one candidate reportedly remained after scrutiny.
Chakraborty said the Commission has the relevant data but needs to verify the details before releasing specific information.
The Commission will check whether these uncontested seats are concentrated in particular Village Committees or whether any entire Village Committee has gone uncontested.
The final picture should become clearer after the withdrawal process concludes.
Security Arrangements Strengthened
Security preparations are also underway for the elections.
Chakraborty said adequate security forces will be deployed across the polling areas. The Tripura Police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) will take part in election security arrangements.
Personnel from outside Tripura, including Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), will also support the security deployment.
