Tripura’s organically grown ginger and Bird’s Eye Chilli, locally known as Dhani Lanka, have entered the German market, marking a major breakthrough for the state’s agriculture sector. The development has sparked excitement among farmers and officials, as Germany placed a substantial order after being impressed by the quality of the produce.

Tripura showcased its organic agricultural products at BIOFACH 2026, held in Nuremberg, Germany. BIOFACH is one of the world’s largest trade fairs dedicated to organic products, attracting global buyers, agricultural experts, and policymakers.
According to Nath, visitors and buyers at the fair praised the freshness, aroma, and superior quality of Tripura’s organic ginger and Bird’s Eye Chilli. The enthusiastic response quickly translated into confirmed orders from German agricultural stakeholders.
Germany has placed an order for 500 metric tons of organic ginger and 20 metric tons of Bird’s Eye Chilli. Officials expect to dispatch the consignments soon after completing necessary export formalities.
Minister Highlights Quality and Farmer Participation
Ratan Lal Nath personally attended the international fair along with a farmer representative, Laxman Reang from Jampui-Jala. He said German agricultural officers and agribusiness leaders showed keen interest in Tripura’s produce and placed orders immediately after assessing the samples.
The minister emphasized that maintaining consistent quality will remain the top priority. He noted that sustained quality standards could help Tripura secure additional orders from European markets in the coming years.
“This is just the beginning. If we continue to uphold strict organic standards and ensure timely supply, we can expand our footprint in international markets,” Nath said.
Boost to Tripura’s Agriculture Sector
The export breakthrough offers a significant boost to Tripura’s agriculture economy. Organic farming has steadily gained ground in the state, with farmers increasingly adopting chemical-free cultivation practices. Ginger and Bird’s Eye Chilli have emerged as high-demand crops due to their strong flavor profile and medicinal value.
Industry experts believe that entry into the German market will enhance Tripura’s brand value in Europe. It may also open doors to other countries seeking certified organic produce from India’s northeastern region.
The Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry played a crucial role in facilitating Tripura’s participation at BIOFACH 2026. The ministry encouraged state representatives to scale up production while maintaining global quality benchmarks.
Focus on Production and Global Expansion
Following the successful order, the state government plans to strengthen supply chains, improve post-harvest handling, and ensure international certification compliance. Officials aim to increase production capacity without compromising organic standards.
The agriculture department will work closely with farmers’ groups to meet export timelines and explore additional markets in Europe and beyond. Authorities also plan to provide technical support and training to farmers to maintain uniform quality.
With Germany emerging as a new destination for Tripura’s organic ginger and Bird’s Eye Chilli, the state has taken a significant step toward positioning itself as a reliable exporter of premium organic produce.
The successful participation at BIOFACH 2026 not only secured immediate orders but also highlighted Tripura’s potential in the global organic agriculture market. If the momentum continues, the state could soon become a major contributor to India’s organic export basket.
