Truck Vandalized During Congress Strike in Kailashahar

Tension prevailed in Kailashahar, the Unakoti district headquarters, on Thursday after a truck was vandalized during a dawn-to-dusk strike called by the Congress.

The driver, Rahul Sarkar, said he was unaware of the strike and was not alerted by police while entering the town. He sustained minor injuries while attempting to resist the agitators.

Unakoti Superintendent of Police P. Sudambika R stated that adequate security personnel had been deployed across Kailashahar and the situation was under control. She described the truck incident as minor and confirmed that both parties had been warned to maintain peace, failing which strict action would be taken.

The strike was organized by the Unakoti District Congress Committee to protest alleged corruption in the tendering process. Congress leaders alleged repeated irregularities in government contracts and accused the administration of failing to maintain transparency. They warned of intensified agitation if immediate measures were not taken.

On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused the Congress of creating disruption through strikes and countered the agitation with picketing in parts of Kailashahar.

Shops and businesses in the town remained largely closed during the strike, while government offices functioned with reduced attendance. Except for the truck incident, the day passed without any major disturbance.
