Gold Chain Seized, Accused Thief Arrested in Separate Operation
In a major breakthrough, West District police have recovered 24 stolen mobile phones from different parts of the district and successfully returned them to their rightful owners. In a separate but related development, police from the East Police Station also seized a stolen gold chain and arrested one accused in connection with the theft.
The achievements were shared with the media on Wednesday by Superintendent of Police (SP) Namit Pathak. He was accompanied by Sadar SDPO Debaprasad Roy and East Police Station Officer-in-Charge Subrata Debnath during the press briefing.

Phones Missing Over Six Months Recovered
According to SP Pathak, the recovered mobile phones had gone missing over the last six months. The thefts were reported from multiple locations across the West District. Following the complaints, police launched a sustained investigation to track the stolen devices.
As part of the effort, officers analysed technical data and followed multiple leads. Consequently, they were able to recover 24 mobile phones. Out of these, 14 devices were traced and identified through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, which helps track lost or stolen mobile phones nationwide.
Devices Handed Over During Press Briefing
After completing the verification process, the recovered phones were formally handed over to their owners during the press briefing. The owners expressed relief and appreciation for the police effort.
SP Pathak stated that the successful recovery demonstrates the effectiveness of combining technology with ground-level policing. Moreover, he encouraged citizens to report lost or stolen phones promptly and to register details on the CEIR portal to improve recovery chances.
Gold Chain Theft Case Solved
In another operation, East Police Station personnel recovered a stolen gold chain from the Chandrapur area of Agartala. One accused thief was arrested in connection with the case.
Police officials said that preliminary investigation revealed the suspect had been hiding in Kailashahar. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a police team conducted a raid and apprehended him.
Case Registered, Probe Continues
Following the arrest, police registered a case under relevant sections of the law. Further investigation is currently underway to determine whether the accused was involved in other theft cases.
Officials stated that efforts are ongoing to recover additional stolen property, if any, linked to the suspect. Police have also intensified surveillance to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Public Welcomes Police Success
Residents who received their recovered mobile phones welcomed the police action. Many expressed gratitude and said the recovery restored their confidence in the district police administration.
SP Pathak assured the public that West District police remain committed to addressing theft-related crimes. He added that regular drives and technology-based tracking will continue to ensure better law enforcement and public safety.
