EVMs and Ballot Boxes Kept Amid Tight Security in Tripura, Polling was Over 87 Percent

The fate of a total of 259 candidates will be decided on 60 assembly seats in Tripura. The counting of votes in the state is to take place on March 2.

After the Tripura Assembly Elections on February 16, the ballot boxes and EVMs have been kept under tight security under CCTV surveillance in the presence of representatives of all political parties. A team of CRPF jawans has been deployed in and outside the storm room. Tripura Police and TSR are also getting full help in this. 

SDPO Sadar Ajay Kumar Das said, ‘EVMs have been kept under tight security at Umakanta Academy School. A team of CRPF jawans has been deployed here. The concerned police stations are patrolling round the clock. Along with this, the strong room is also being monitored with the help of CCTV. 

Voting was held on 16 February 

Voting for the Tripura Assembly elections was held on 16 February. According to the Election Commission, there was more than 87 percent voting in it. The fate of 259 candidates will be decided in the ongoing voting for 60 assembly seats. The counting of votes in the state is to take place on March 2.

According to the Election Commission, there were over 28.14 lakh registered voters this year, of whom 14,15,233 were male, 13,99,289 female and 62 were transgender. Adequate security arrangements were made for polling with 97 all-women police stations. 94,815 voters were in the age group of 18-19 while 6,21,505 voters were in the age group of 22-29. 

Triangular contest in Tripura

In Tripura, there is a triangular contest between BJP-IPFT alliance, CPM-Congress alliance and Tipra Motha for 60 seats. The BJP is contesting on 55 seats, while its ally IPFT has fielded candidates on six seats, while one seat will see a friendly contest. The CPI(M) contested on 47 seats while its alliance partner Congress contested on 13 seats. At the same time, Tipra Motha fielded candidates on 42 seats and Trinamool Congress fielded candidates on 28 seats and 58 are independent candidates.
