The fifth edition of the Me’gong Festival 2025 opened with great fanfare in the scenic Garo Hills, attracting a large crowd on its inaugural day. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated the state’s flagship cultural festival, which showcased international performances, local talent, traditional sports, and indigenous cuisine. Moreover, the festival highlighted Meghalaya’s growing cultural and tourism potential.
Global Artists Shine on the Aski Stage
The Aski Stage began with American pop-rock artist Richard Marx, who performed his iconic hits along with tracks from his upcoming album Afterhours. He also expressed excitement about performing in Meghalaya and praised the enthusiastic festival audience.
Next, Bollywood singer Neeti Mohan delivered a high-energy performance. She sang hits like Ishq Wala Love, Jiya Re, Tu Hai Toh, and London Thumakda. Furthermore, she ended with retro classics Lag Jaa Gale and Naina Tose Lage. In addition, she paid tribute to Zubeen Garg, performing Mayabini, a fan favorite in the region.
The evening continued with a reggae performance by Julian Marley. Meanwhile, electronic music artist Nucleya closed the night with an electrifying set, thrilling the crowd and ending the day on a high note.

Local Talent Takes the Spotlight
Local musicians also impressed the audience. Haystack Ladies, Strum Stories, and Ahaia showcased Meghalaya’s growing music scene. A major highlight was the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project (CM-MGMP). The top 7 finalists—Nictophilia, Magneficient Obsession, Necroscope, Emberfall, Imphaled, Misagathia, and Rise & Shine—performed on stage. This initiative supports emerging artists and strengthens the state’s creative ecosystem.
Culinary Experiences at the Great Garo Hills Cook Off
Food lovers enjoyed the Great Garo Hills Cook Off, which returned with wide participation. Contestants prepared traditional and fusion dishes using local ingredients. Moreover, Nambie Jessica Marak, MasterChef India Season 8 runner-up, joined as a special guest. Her presence added excitement and recognition to the culinary showcase.
Cultural Activities and Experiential Zones
The festival offered more than music and food. Visitors engaged in traditional sports like Anding Oka, explored the Brew Village, and tried immersive experiences at the VR Zone. Additionally, they interacted with local artisans and cultural performers. Stalls under the PRIME Meghalaya program displayed local handicrafts, beverages, and food products.
Me’gong Festival: A Cultural and Tourism Milestone
The first day highlighted Meghalaya’s cultural and tourism growth. By combining international artists with local talent, the festival strengthened the state’s creative infrastructure.
Looking ahead, Day 2 promises more excitement. The Aski Stage will feature Blue, Yellow Claw, Kanika Kapoor, and Prateek Kuhad, while the Kingfisher Stage will host Hoi Hoi Makbil, G-Hills Finest, Crack Gang, Rough Road, and Nokpante. In addition, visitors can enjoy the Cosplay Contest and other cultural activities.
Overall, with its mix of music, art, and food, the Me’gong Festival continues to position Meghalaya as a vibrant hub for culture and tourism.
