Tripura CM Stresses Awareness as Key to Fighting HIV/AIDS

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha shared the latest HIV/AIDS statistics of the state during the State-Level World AIDS Day observance in Agartala. He said awareness remains the strongest tool to protect society from the infection. He also called for united action from all sections of the community.

Dr. Saha revealed that 4 crore people worldwide are living with HIV/AIDS. India has 25 lakh cases, which remains a major concern. In Tripura, 6,417 people are currently affected by the disease.

He further gave a gender-wise breakup. 5,189 men, 1,222 women, and 6 transgender persons are living with HIV/AIDS in the state. Additionally, he said that the government provides a monthly assistance of Rs. 2,000 to each patient. This support aims to ease their financial burden.

Awareness Remains the Key Strategy

The Chief Minister stressed that prevention depends on continuous awareness. He explained that many people still lack correct information about HIV/AIDS. Therefore, strong awareness campaigns can reduce fear and misunderstanding. They can also encourage more people to get tested and adopt safer practices.

Moreover, Dr. Saha urged the Tripura State AIDS Control Society to expand its outreach. He asked the organization to work closely with clubs, schools, colleges, and social groups. According to him, joint efforts can create a healthier and more informed society.

Community Participation Is Essential

Dr. Saha stated that every citizen has a role in fighting HIV/AIDS. He said collective responsibility can strengthen the state’s response. Furthermore, he noted that social participation helps reduce stigma. As a result, more patients feel comfortable seeking treatment and support.

He also requested all organizations to continue awareness activities throughout the year. He said that regular programs will help build a supportive environment for affected individuals.

In conclusion, Dr. Saha emphasised that long-term awareness efforts are the most effective way to protect people from HIV/AIDS. He urged everyone to stay committed to spreading accurate information and promoting healthy practices.
