An Alumni Meet held in Bengaluru highlighted the inspiring success stories of youth from Tripura who have transformed their lives through the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY). The scheme is implemented in the state by the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM).
The event brought together former trainees, employers, and key stakeholders. It served as a platform to showcase the impact of skill development and employment-linked training on rural youth.

DDU-GKY Changing Lives Through Skill Training
The alumni shared how the DDU-GKY programme opened doors to stable employment and financial independence. Many participants credited TRLM for guiding them during job fairs and training programs.
The meet celebrated not only individual achievements but also the collective effort behind the initiative.
Amazon Employee from Dhalai Shares Journey
One of the highlights of the event was the story of Bidyadhar Chakma from Chawmanu in Dhalai district. He enrolled in the DDU-GKY programme after attending a Kausal Mela organised with the support of TRLM.
Today, he works at Amazon and earns a monthly salary of Rs 33,000. While living in Bengaluru, he said he misses the taste of traditional Tripuri food. However, he has grown fond of local dishes such as idlis.
He regularly sends money to his family in Tripura and expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and the state government for creating opportunities for rural youth.
Woman Electrician Secures Job with Tata
Another inspiring story came from Ganga Das, who completed Electrician training under TRLM. After finishing the course, she secured employment with Tata.
She shared that the training helped her become financially independent. She now supports her parents by sending money home. According to her, the programme has given her confidence and long-term career stability.
Amazon Job Brings Financial Independence
Sampa Das Sarkar from Melagharh also shared her journey at the Alumni Meet. After undergoing six months of training under the DDU-GKY scheme, she secured a job at Amazon.
She currently earns Rs 21,000 per month. Sampa said the programme empowered her to stand on her own feet and contribute to her family’s well-being. She encouraged other young people to take advantage of skill development schemes.
Strong Participation from Stakeholders
The Alumni Meet concluded with active participation from multiple stakeholders. Representatives from the Karnataka State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM), the Regional Head of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs), and employers attended the event.
Speakers emphasized the importance of collaboration between government agencies, training partners, and the private sector. They noted that such partnerships are essential for creating sustainable livelihoods for rural youth.
Skill Development Driving Employment Opportunities
The event underscored the growing impact of DDU-GKY in connecting rural youth to formal employment. Officials highlighted that continued investment in skill training will help reduce unemployment and improve living standards.
Participants agreed that alumni engagement plays a vital role in motivating new trainees and strengthening the programme’s success.
