The Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC)-151 for National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets commenced on December 9 at the SaruSajai Stadium in Guwahati. Organised by the 60 Assam Girls Battalion NCC and other units under the NCC Directorate NER, Shillong, the 10-day camp will run until December 18. It has brought together approximately 275 cadets from 30 schools, colleges, and universities in and around Guwahati, aiming to provide them with a transformative experience.
A Platform for Leadership and National Pride
The primary objective of the camp is to instill leadership skills, discipline, and a sense of national pride among the cadets, who range from students in class 9 to those in their third year of graduation. This annual training camp offers the cadets an opportunity to experience a regimented lifestyle and learn key military and survival skills, which are essential for their personal growth and future leadership roles.
Camp Commandant Col. Ajay Kumar Sharma is overseeing the training program, which includes a series of physical exercises, military drills, and character-building activities. With a focus on fostering teamwork, resilience, and self-discipline, the camp seeks to equip cadets with the skills they need to excel in their academic and professional lives.
Comprehensive Training and Competitions
Throughout the camp, cadets will participate in various training sessions and competitions designed to enhance their physical endurance, mental strength, and overall abilities. These activities include military drills, first aid training, firing exercises, and community living programs.
In addition to physical training, cadets will compete in a range of engaging activities, such as volleyball, debate, painting, elocution, tug-of-war, and drill exercises. These competitions are crafted to challenge the cadets and encourage them to work together as a team, while also honing their leadership skills.
The camp also plays a crucial role in helping cadets prepare for the ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and ‘C’ certificate examinations, which are part of their progression within the NCC.
Guest Lectures and Personal Development
In addition to the hands-on training, the cadets will have the opportunity to attend several guest lectures from renowned experts. These lectures are designed to broaden their knowledge and provide valuable insights into various topics.
Among the scheduled guest speakers are representatives from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFi). They will discuss topics related to personal development, soft skills, and the importance of disaster management. Additionally, experts will address themes such as “How to Be a Good Citizen of India,” “Know Your Army,” and “Traffic Management,” which will help cadets understand their roles in society and how to contribute to national growth.
These guest lectures are designed to inspire cadets and instill in them the values of discipline, community service, and leadership, which are integral to the NCC ethos.
