Teliamura Police arrested two individuals from Bhagalpur, Bihar, after recovering 21 kilograms of dry cannabis from their possession. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth over ₹1 lakh in the illegal market.
The accused, identified as Ravi Kumar and Om Nath Yadav, were intercepted during a routine vehicle checking drive conducted near the Trisha Bari area. According to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jayanta Dey, the duo attempted to flee upon noticing the police presence but were successfully apprehended after a brief chase.
Upon searching their shoulder bags, police recovered 21 packets of dry cannabis. The seizure and arrest were carried out in the presence of a Designated Civil Magistrate (DCM), following all legal protocols.
“We have initiated action under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act. The investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of their smuggling operation,” said OC Jayanta Dey.
Preliminary findings suggest that the accused planned to use rail transport from Teliamura to smuggle the cannabis to another state, highlighting a larger inter-state drug network possibly operating through Tripura.
This arrest is part of a series of anti-drug operations by Teliamura Police in recent months. Authorities believe that Tripura is increasingly being used as a transit route by traffickers targeting other parts of the country.
