Security forces destroyed nearly 22 acres of illegal poppy cultivation in Kangpokpi district on Tuesday. Officials confirmed that the operation also led to the demolition of three farm huts at Sehjang/Khoiripok under New Keithelmanbi Police Station.
The action formed part of an intensified drive against illegal poppy plantations in vulnerable hill areas of the state. Authorities reiterated that such operations aim to curb narcotics-linked activities and restore law and order.

Ongoing Crackdown on Illicit Cultivation
According to officials, security personnel have been conducting regular operations to prevent the resurgence of poppy cultivation. Illegal plantations often emerge in remote hill areas, making coordinated efforts essential.
Therefore, forces have stepped up surveillance and enforcement measures in identified hotspots. The latest operation reflects the government’s firm stance against drug-related activities and organised networks supporting illicit farming.
Authorities stated that destruction drives will continue in the coming weeks. They emphasized that sustained monitoring is crucial to prevent replantation.
Search Operations and Arms Recovery
In addition to anti-poppy drives, security forces have intensified search operations and area domination exercises across both hill and valley districts of Manipur. These measures focus particularly on fringe and sensitive areas.
Recent operations have resulted in the recovery of arms and ammunition. Although officials did not disclose detailed figures, they confirmed that multiple security checks have strengthened vigilance across the state.
Such actions form part of a broader security strategy to stabilise affected regions and deter unlawful activities.
Heightened Security Measures Across Districts
As part of enhanced security arrangements, authorities set up 103 nakas and checkpoints across various districts in Manipur. These checkpoints were established in both hill and valley areas to monitor movement and prevent illegal activities.
However, officials reported that no detentions were made during these routine checks. Despite this, security agencies continue to maintain a strong presence in strategic locations.
The move reflects a precautionary approach amid prevailing security concerns.

Ensuring Safe Movement on NH-37
Meanwhile, authorities ensured the safe passage of 176 vehicles carrying essential commodities along National Highway 37. The highway serves as a vital supply route for the state.
Security forces deployed strict protection measures at vulnerable points along the route. Convoy protection was also provided in sensitive stretches to guarantee uninterrupted transportation.
Officials stressed that maintaining supply chains remains a top priority. Therefore, forces are working to ensure that goods reach their destinations without disruption.
Continued Vigilance in Sensitive Areas
Overall, the coordinated operations in Kangpokpi district underline the state’s determination to tackle illegal cultivation and related security challenges. By combining enforcement drives, search operations, and highway protection measures, authorities aim to strengthen stability in affected regions.
Security officials reiterated that sustained vigilance will remain in place. They added that collaboration between local police, central forces, and administrative authorities is essential to prevent illegal activities and safeguard public safety.
The destruction of 22 acres of poppy cultivation marks another step in Manipur’s broader campaign against narcotics and insurgency-linked operations.
