The Assam Police on Thursday recovered around 2500 kg of ganja, worth Rs 15 crore. Officials gave this information. A senior police officer said that this is the biggest seizure of ganja in recent times. Police have seized a consignment of cannabis from the Jorabat area of Guwahati on the Assam-Meghalaya inter-state border. Based on the information received by the police, a team of Guwahati Police under the leadership of Joint Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahant conducted raids. During this, the truck with the registration number of Haryana has been seized.
At least 2500 kg of ganja has been recovered from the truck, the police official said. The estimated market value of the seized ganja would be around Rs 15 crore. According to the police, the ganja was brought from Manipur and it was to be transported somewhere in Guwahati. But before that the police caught the consignment.
The police arrested the truck driver Ashok Kumar and his assistant Jitendra Kumar on the spot. He hails from Haryana and Uttarakhand respectively. Police are interrogating him to get more information about the ganja smuggling gang.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister appreciated the action of the Assam Police. Over the past few weeks, the police have foiled several attempts to smuggle ganja in different parts of the state.
