The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), West Tripura, successfully organized the third National Lok Adalat of 2025 in Agartala on Saturday. The initiative was conducted in coordination with the Tripura High Court, district courts, and sub-divisional courts across the state.

According to official data, a total of 31,789 cases were disposed of in 39 benches constituted for the Lok Adalat. Among these, 24,013 cases were pending before different courts, while 6,776 were pre-litigation matters. The proceedings covered a wide range of disputes, allowing citizens to settle their cases amicably without prolonged legal battles.

The data further highlighted the distribution of cases resolved on the day. These included 203 motor accident compensation cases, 249 matrimonial disputes, 5,594 bank loan repayment cases, 1,182 BSNL bill payment disputes, and 23,442 criminal cases falling under various Acts such as the MB Act, TP Act, TG Act, and Excise Act. Additionally, 68 cheque bounce cases under the NI Act, 8 money suit cases, 35 civil disputes (TSOMS cases), one case under the Forest Rights Act, and 7 employment-related disputes were also addressed.

The Lok Adalat system is recognized as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism aimed at reducing the burden on the judiciary and providing affordable, speedy justice. By settling cases through mutual consent, both litigants and institutions benefit from time and cost efficiency.

Saturday’s Lok Adalat once again highlighted the success of this model in Tripura. The large number of disposed cases demonstrated the growing trust of the public in this platform to resolve disputes outside the traditional court process.

On the same day, journalists from the state also availed the opportunity to clear their traffic-related fine cases through the Lok Adalat. The initiative was welcomed by the press fraternity, with Press Club President Pranab Sarkar expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister and the judiciary for extending this facility to working journalists.

The National Lok Adalat is held periodically across India under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). In Tripura, these drives have consistently recorded high case disposal figures, easing the burden on courts and encouraging amicable settlements.

The success of the September 13 session once again underlined the importance of Lok Adalats as a vital component of India’s judicial framework. With over 31,000 cases resolved in a single day, the event reflected both the efficiency of the system and the willingness of citizens to embrace alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
