The Assam pavilion secured the second position in the “State Government and Union Territory” category for its exceptional display at the 42nd edition of the India International Trade Fair (IITF), 2023, held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. The event, featuring 28 states, union territories, and 13 foreign countries, alongside major corporate entities, ran from November 14 to November 27.

Recognition at a Grand Scale

The prestigious trade fair, commencing on November 14 and concluding on November 27, attracted participation from 28 states, union territories, 13 foreign countries, and prominent corporate entities. Assam’s pavilion director, Santanu Deuri, proudly accepted the silver medal from Pradeep Singh Kharola, the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO). Notably, Odisha clinched the gold, and Rajasthan secured the bronze medal.

Showcasing Assam’s Rich Heritage

Under the theme ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam-United by Trade,’ the Assam pavilion spotlighted locally crafted products by women artisans and entrepreneurs. It became a hub for the state’s cultural heritage, featuring captivating handicrafts and handlooms that drew considerable attention from fair visitors.

Diverse Offerings and Government Initiatives

The pavilion housed 37 stalls, featuring a range of products from renowned handloom outlets, government-owned handicrafts and handloom establishments, as well as various state government departments and agencies. Visitors explored and purchased locally made products, contributing to a substantial sales turnover of approximately Rs52 lakh. The pavilion served as a platform to promote Assam’s unique initiatives, including ‘One District One Product,’ Geographical Indication (GI) products like Assam lemon, Gamusa, Muga silk, traditional dresses, ‘Ease of Doing Business,’ and the flourishing Assam start-ups.

Impactful Participation

With a substantial footfall, including students from neighboring educational institutions, the Assam pavilion at IITF 2023 not only showcased the state’s economic vibrancy but also facilitated significant engagement and commerce. The silver medal win stands as a testament to Assam’s commitment to promoting its rich heritage and fostering economic growth through such prominent platforms.
