Bikram Bahadur Jamatia who was a tribal leader from Tripura played a crucial real in advancing an indigenous people’s movement towards suppressing the violence against the deadly conflict that had affected the northeastern state receives Padma Shri Award. In Tripura in the late 1990s, He sought to build tribal opposition to the second phase of the conflict.
He used to travel to tribal areas where violence was widespread, neglecting the threat. He inspired the villagers to fight back the insurgency by pointing out that the fighting had all but put an end to development efforts in these areas.
He has spent decades promoting indigenous faith, culture, and tradition and has served as an ambassador in the region. He further said that the people of the state are proud at this time. He sincerely appreciates the federal government for the action adding that he will keep fighting for the state’s indigenous people’s right to practice their religion, culture, and traditions.
