In a recent announcement on the microblogging site X, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reinforced the government’s unwavering commitment to bridging road infrastructure gaps across Assam. The emphasis was placed on fostering seamless connectivity and bringing communities closer through a series of ongoing development projects aimed at enhancing accessibility and boosting economic development throughout the state.
Underlining the state government’s dedication to this cause, Chief Minister Sarma highlighted several schemes actively engaged in the development of roads. The primary objective is to establish a robust network that not only reduces travel times but also significantly contributes to the overall connectivity and growth of Assam.
A key initiative in this endeavor is the Assom Mala 1.0 project, which was launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on February 7, 2021. With an investment of Rs 1,859 crore utilized till 2023, this project has played a pivotal role in the development of road infrastructure. Notable roads such as Palasbari Mirza Chandubi, Nahar Ali, and major bridges over Dikrong and Subansiri rivers showcase the tangible impact of this initiative on improving the state’s connectivity.
Another noteworthy project contributing to Assam’s road development is the Assam State Roads Improvement Project (ASRIP). Focusing on enhancing road corridors, the project covers a total length of 247 km across 8 packages. Roads like Dhodor Ali, featuring bridges over Subansiri, exemplify the government’s commitment to improving secondary road networks. With an investment of ₹380 crore utilized to date, ASRIP stands as a testament to the strategic approach in bolstering connectivity beyond primary routes.
