A four-member delegation from AIIMS Delhi recently concluded a comprehensive three-day visit to Tripura to assess the state’s healthcare infrastructure. The expert team, invited by the Tripura government, evaluated hospitals, medical colleges, and primary health centres across districts. The visit signals the beginning of a long-term collaboration aimed at strengthening Tripura’s healthcare delivery system.
According to officials, the delegation will submit a detailed assessment report to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, highlighting areas that require immediate intervention and long-term upgrades.
AIIMS-Tripura Partnership to Boost Medical Training
One of the key outcomes of the visit is a plan to train Tripura’s doctors, nurses, and lab technicians under the mentorship of AIIMS. The delegation assured that customized training modules would soon be rolled out for healthcare personnel at various levels.
“AIIMS will assist in building human resource capacity through advanced clinical training, diagnostic skill development, and technology adoption,” a senior AIIMS official stated. The training aims to bridge gaps in service delivery. Moreover, enhance the efficiency of frontline workers, especially in rural and remote areas.
Field Visits Covered State and District Hospitals
During the visit, the AIIMS team inspected Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital, Agartala Government Medical College, ICDS centres, sub-divisional hospitals, and district health offices. The officials evaluated equipment availability, patient care standards, data handling, and emergency preparedness.
The delegation interacted with medical professionals, patients, and administrators to understand the on-ground challenges. Several rural health centres were found lacking in infrastructure, trained staff, and modern diagnostic tools, officials noted.
Technology, Telemedicine to Play Bigger Role
Tripura’s Health Department, in collaboration with AIIMS, plans to digitize patient records, introduce telemedicine services, and standardize protocols across government facilities. A pilot telemedicine network connecting rural health centres to AIIMS specialists is under discussion.
“Teleconsultation is a cost-effective way to reach underserved populations. We are working on a strategy that will link Tripura’s doctors with AIIMS experts for real-time diagnosis and treatment advice,” said the visiting team.
CM Manik Saha Welcomes Collaboration
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who also holds the Health and Family Welfare portfolio, expressed gratitude to AIIMS Delhi for responding to Tripura’s request for technical support.
“We are committed to delivering better healthcare to our citizens. The AIIMS partnership will help us raise the quality of care, especially in tribal and hilly areas,” Saha said. He assured full cooperation from the state government in implementing the team’s recommendations.
Action Plan to Be Finalized Soon
Following the report submission, a joint task force will be set up between the Tripura Health Department and AIIMS Delhi to implement short-term and long-term solutions. These include:
- Refresher training for medical staff
- Setting up of clinical labs with AIIMS assistance
- Regular monitoring of maternal and child health indicators
- Enhanced cold chain systems for vaccination drives
