Emphasis on Environmental Responsibility

During his speech, Animesh Debbarma highlighted the growing global environmental crisis. He explained that natural resources are rapidly declining, and biodiversity continues to shrink. Therefore, he urged students and teachers to stay alert, informed, and proactive.

“Our survival depends on how seriously we protect nature. Students must explore, observe, and understand the environment around them and think about how it is changing,” he noted.

He further encouraged students to remain innovative and curious so they can identify environmental issues and contribute to practical solutions.

Expansion of the DNA Club Programme

The DNA Club scheme was launched by the Department of Biotechnology, which functions under the Department of Science and Technology. Since its introduction, 222 schools in Tripura have received financial support through the programme.

Moreover, the department has added 50 more schools this financial year. As a result, more institutions now have the opportunity to improve laboratory facilities and support hands-on learning in life science subjects.

Awards, Book Release, and Key Attendance

At the programme, 28 teachers and 100 students from 50 schools received awards for their outstanding participation. In addition, a new book outlining the objectives and benefits of the DNA Club scheme was officially launched.

The event also drew the presence of several key officials, including:

  • Chaitanya Murthi, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology
  • Mahendra Singh, Member Secretary, Tripura Biotechnology Council
  • Amal Sengupta, Joint Director

Their participation demonstrated strong administrative support for the initiative.

Positive Response and Impact

More than 300 teachers and students attended the programme. According to many teachers, the DNA Club scheme has increased awareness about environmental conservation among students. Additionally, it has strengthened their interest in science, research, and biotechnology.

Teachers also reported that students are now more confident in conducting experiments, participating in nature-based activities, and applying scientific thinking in everyday situations.

Overall, the DNA Club programme continues to grow as an important platform for encouraging scientific curiosity and environmental awareness among young learners in Tripura.
