Amid rising security concerns triggered by unrest in neighbouring Bangladesh, senior officers of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles and the Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday conducted a detailed review of security arrangements along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s South District.

The high-level inspection was carried out in the Belonia sub-division, a strategically sensitive area located along the international boundary. The visit aimed to assess the operational readiness of forces deployed in the region and to strengthen coordination among security agencies responsible for guarding the border.

Tripura shares an 856-kilometre-long international border with Bangladesh. A considerable stretch of this border remains unfenced, posing persistent security challenges, especially during periods of political or social unrest across the border.

Senior Army Commander Visits Border Outpost

According to an official statement issued by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army, Lieutenant General RC Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Eastern Command, visited a Border Outpost (BOP) in Belonia. He was accompanied by senior officials from the Indian Army, Assam Rifles and BSF.

During the visit, Lt Gen Tiwari closely reviewed the security posture and operational preparedness of troops deployed at forward locations. He interacted with personnel stationed at the outposts and assessed ground-level arrangements, surveillance measures and response mechanisms in place to deal with any emerging threat.

Focus on Vigilance and Coordination

The senior commander emphasized the importance of constant vigilance, effective intelligence sharing and seamless coordination among the Indian Army, Assam Rifles and BSF to ensure the security of the international border. Given the evolving security scenario in Bangladesh, forces have been advised to remain on high alert and respond swiftly to any untoward situation.

Lt Gen Tiwari commended the troops for their professionalism and dedication, noting that their sustained alertness plays a crucial role in preventing infiltration, cross-border crime and other security challenges. He also appreciated their efforts in maintaining peace and stability along the sensitive border areas despite difficult terrain and operational constraints.

Strengthening Border Security

Officials stated that such inspections are part of routine measures to ensure that border management remains robust and adaptive to changing ground realities. The review also focused on infrastructure, logistics and the overall effectiveness of border-guarding mechanisms.

The Eastern Command reiterated that the Indian Army, along with the Assam Rifles and BSF, remains fully prepared to safeguard national security and protect the territorial integrity of the country.

The security review comes at a time when authorities are closely monitoring developments in Bangladesh and their possible impact on border regions, particularly in India’s northeastern states.
