A one-month-old Himalayan black bear cub was rescued from an agricultural field in Borduria village under Deomali subdivision in Arunachal Pradesh. The cub had strayed away from its natural habitat; therefore, its survival was at risk.
On March 26, 2026, local residents Ponpong Ruttum and Wanghon Lettey spotted the cub. They immediately informed the Forest Department, and as a result, officials acted without delay.

Swift Action by Forest Officials
Soon after receiving the alert, a rescue team from the Deomali Forest Division reached the location. Diwang Lowang led the operation and ensured a safe rescue. Meanwhile, senior officials supervised the process to avoid any harm to the animal.
The team provided immediate care and closely monitored the cub’s condition. Consequently, the cub remained stable and ready for further treatment.
Transfer to Rehabilitation Centre
After initial care, officials transferred the cub on March 28 for advanced treatment. They handed it over to veterinarian Panjit Basumatary at the Centre for Bear Rehabilitation and Conservation (CBRC) in Pakke Tiger Reserve.
The handover took place in Namsai with forest officials present. From there, experts began specialized care; moreover, they will continue rehabilitation until the cub regains strength.
Community Effort Praised
Forest officials praised the villagers for their quick response. In addition, RFO Lowang urged people to support wildlife conservation efforts. He advised citizens to avoid deforestation, hunting, and poaching, as these activities threaten wildlife.
At the same time, Environment and Forest Minister Wangki Lowang commended the residents. He emphasized that community awareness plays a vital role in protecting biodiversity.
